Exudative detachment as a masquerader in hypoalbuminaemic patients

چکیده
Retinal detachment (RD) is a serious condition that may lead to permanent loss of vision. Most RDs result from a tear(s) in the retina, through which liquefied vitreous enters the sub-retinal space. Rarely, however, exudative retinal detachment (ERD) occurs due to an underlying ocular or systemic condition that produces excess subretinal fluid in the absence of tears and/or tractional pull [1]. The ERD may go unnoticed especially if the patient is severely ill and may not complain of symptoms like floaters, flashes of light and peripheral visual field defect. Severe visual deficit occurs once the macula is involved in advanced ERD. Hence, a high level of suspicion is mandatory to detect ERD in these renal and gastroenterological conditions. We report a series of three patients who had ERD secondary to underlying systemic disease and interestingly were diagnosed only after blurring of vision occurred as their presenting symptom.

PURPOSE We report a case of unilateral exudative retinal detachment in a patient with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), without associated hypertension, successfully treated with plasmapheresis. CASE REPORT A 46-year-old woman with a medical history of TTP presented with unilateral exudative retinal detachment. Biological and radiological assessment eliminated other causes of exudati...

AIM To report a patient with unilateral exudative retinal detachment due to pansinusitis. METHODS Case report. RESULTS A 65-year-old woman with a two-month history of blurred vision, red eye and lid swelling in her left eye was referred to us. Her best-corrected visual acuity was 20/20 in the right eye and 20/200 in the left. Conjunctival vessels were engorged in the OS. Funduscopy revealed...

AIM To study the results of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide (TA) for exudative age-related macular degeneration (AMD) among Japanese patients. METHODS 13 eyes of 12 Japanese patients (9 males and 3 females) with subfoveal choroidal neovascularization (CNV) of exudative AMD received intravitreal TA (8 mg).
